Louisiana Festivals Easter Weekend 2023

Louisiana Lao New Year Celebration

One of the many thousand reasons to live in Louisiana is the cultural diversity, there’s simply something for everyone! This weekend the people of Laos have their New Year and in keeping with tradition, Lanexang Village will host a 3 day New Year Celebration. In Lao, the celebration commences on April 13 or 14 and ends three days later. The New Year or “Pi Mai” marks the beginning of the hottest month of the year and the beginning of monsoon season. The New Year is also celebrated in many countries nearby Laos.

The three-day festival will include live music, a beauty pageant, parades, kids activities, sand castle building. There will be many vendors selling clothes, jewelry, music and food from Southeast Asia. $50 VIP all-access passes are available and includes reserved parking, food, a guided tour, access to VIP parade lounge as well as to the Tea-time performance banquet.

The Lao tradition breaks the New Year into three days. The first day is the last day of the old year. Day 2 is the day of “no year” which is a day that neither falls in the old year nor the New year. Finally, day three is the first day of the New Year.

The Lanexang Village is located at 7913 Champa Avenue in Broussard, La. The 3 day event is held every year on Easter Weekend. You can book your tickets at eventbrite.com. For more information on the event you can visit their Facebook page or contact them via email at or by phone at (337) 378-9469.
